The popular voice of NBC Sports Washington, Steve Buckhantz is all set to leave the platform. It is not confirmed yet, but rumors suggest the same. An interesting development is going on in the corridors of NBC Sports, so let’s see what lies ahead for Steve Buckhantz.
There is a possibility that Steve Buckhantz could return for the 23rd season as the play-by-play voice of Wizards Television. Although, NBC Sports Washington didn’t make any official statement about it, as they want to analyze their own telecast team in order to find out if there are people available within their own squad who could do the job of Buckhantz.
Phil Hochberg, who is Steve Buckhantz agent said a few days ago that his client 3rd-year option hasn’t been picked up, thus making his future with NBC Sports Activate network uncertain. One of the representatives of NBC Sports has also said that the company doesn’t wish to comment on the status of the employees’ contracts. However, the news of Buckhantz departure has already set off a wave of criticism from media members and fans.
NBC Sports official, Mr. Philips told in an interview that there is some confusion regarding the people who were involved in taking the decision to oust Steve Buckhantz from the network or who will make the final decision.
He said he thinks it is important that fans should know that it is his responsibility to ensure that the company has the right talent. He further said that these decisions are taken after our due diligence and exploring all the possible options. He has dropped a major hint in his statements that the door is not closed on Steve’s return.
Wizards’ owner Ted Leonsis has an ownership stake in NBC Activate Sports Washington, and a number of fans and media members are clamoring for Steve’s return to the network. Philips who joined the network last year is yet to shake up any of the game broadcast news.
Philips said that he has full authority as to who will be the part of the broadcast moving forward. It is a misconception that only Philips is running the show because he said it was a collaborative effort to put the show to greater heights. It is a continuous effort that is being put by everybody who is on-board. It will be the decision of NBC Sports to make as to who they want to be the part of the team.
When Philips was asked if the company needs more time to take a decision on Buckhantz future, he denied to answer that question and said that the main focus for him is to get the right team in place. With a top guy moving out of the platform, it opens the door for new opportunities as well, so let’s hang on to the new developments that occur in the company, as something exciting is about to happen.
It will also be interesting to see how Steve Buckhantz reacts to all the rumors because the entire discussion has been centered around him only.
